After years in a damp old home, this family decided on a knockdown rebuild with passive house at the top of their checklist. They were living with persistent mould, their son's eczema flaring up with it, and they wanted a healthy home that stayed dry and clean to breathe in. They also wanted a home that was genuinely energy efficient, so they could finally get their electricity costs under control.
A house that kept growing mould, with damp they could never fully clear.
A continuous, airtight Passive House envelope keeps moisture out, while filtered mechanical ventilation moves fresh, dry air through the whole home all day. It can rain for a week with no dampness inside, and none of the damp, still conditions mould needs.
Their son's eczema, made worse by constantly running the heater and air conditioner.
A steady, even temperature holds without blasting heating or cooling, and filtered fresh air keeps humidity in check, so the home no longer aggravates sensitive skin.
Electricity bills they couldn't keep under control.
The high-performance, airtight envelope means the home needs only a fraction of the energy to stay comfortable, so heating and cooling costs stay low right through the year.
